Description

NOW – Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500mg 100 Veg Caps

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) 500mg transports Fatty Acids & Boosts Cellular Energy! It is a modified amino acid that supports cellular energy production by assisting in the transport of fat into the mitochondria where it is converted into ATP (cellular fuel). ALC is a highly-bioavailable form of carnitine that can cross the blood-brain barrier, where it helps to neutralize free-radicals, supports mitochondrial function and helps to maintain normal neurotransmitter activity. Clinical studies suggest that ALC helps to maintain optimal neurological health.

  • It emphasises fatty acid transport into mitochondria (energy production).

  • It highlights that this form “crosses the blood-brain barrier” supporting brain/nerve health.

  • It is vegan/vegetarian friendly, non-GMO, etc.

  • It includes a caution: “For adults only. Consult physician if pregnant/nursing, taking medication or have a medical condition.”

Ingredients:

  • Active ingredient (per serving of 2 veg capsules): Acetyl-L-Carnitine (from ~1,205 mg Acetyl-L-Carnitine HCl) = 1,000 mg (1 g).

  • Other (non-medicinal) ingredients: Hypromellose (vegetable capsule), Rice Flour, Stearic Acid (vegetable source), Silicon Dioxide.

  • Allergen/Free-From Info: Not manufactured with yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients. Produced in a GMP facility.

✅ Potential Benefits:

  • Supports cellular energy production: ALC helps transport long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for oxidation, which may enhance energy metabolism.

  • Neuro-protective & supports nerve health: Studies show ALC may support nerve regeneration, reduce neuropathic pain (particularly in diabetic neuropathy) and improve nerve function.

  • Cognitive & brain function support: ALC crosses the blood-brain barrier and may support mitochondrial function in neurons, improve neurotransmitter activity (e.g., acetylcholine), and help with age-related cognitive decline.

  • Mood & depression support: Some trials indicate ALC may improve mood and reduce depressive symptoms in certain populations.

  • Metabolic / glucose‐related benefits: There is evidence for L-carnitine/ALC helping with insulin resistance, glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism.

⚠️ Important Limitations & Considerations:

  • Many benefits are possible rather than proven: For example, a Cochrane review found that ALC might reduce pain in diabetic neuropathy, but the evidence was very low certainty.

  • Dose matters: Many clinical studies use higher doses (e.g., 1.5 g or more) than typical supplement doses.

  • Not for everyone: People with seizures, thyroid disorders, bipolar disorder, or on certain medications may need caution.

  • Supplement vs. food: The body already gets L-carnitine from foods (especially meats) and produces some itself; supplementation adds extra.
