Description
Indications
HCA helps to temporarily increase satiety and the feeling of fullness. It also contributes to the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels by assisting the body to metabolise carbohydrates and sugar.
Pharmacological Action
Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) competitively inhibits the extra-mitochondrial enzyme adenosine triphosphate (ATP) citrate lyase, involved in the conversion of carbohydrate to fat (lipogenesis). Inhibition of this enzyme limits the availability of acetyl-CoA for lipogenesis. Through this mechanism, HCA limits biosynthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol. Chromium may act by potentiating insulin activity helping normalise insulin function.
